10 free and thoughtful Mothers Day gift ideas

Mothers day is just around the corner. Whilst there are plenty of presents you can buy to give to your mum, I thought I would put together some free gifts that are really thoughtful. Some of these ideas will also allow the whole family to spend some quality enjoyable time together.

1. Bake her a sweet treat

If your mum loves cake or a sweet treat why not bake her something. Either bake her something she loves or try a new recipe. Here are a couple of suggestions you might like to try:

2. Get crafty

Make her a handmade gift. Here are a few ideas to get you started and creative juices going:

3. Movie night in

Chose a film, get the blankets out and get the popcorn ready for a cosy night in together. If you want to try your hand at making popcorn, give this Cinnamon-sugar popcorn recipe a go.

4. Breakfast in bed

Treat your mum to breakfast in bed. I would recommend pushing the boat out and make something that’s a real treat like these American blueberry pancakes. Pancakes were always a special treat when I was growing up.

5. Lie in

Along with breakfast in bed, you can also give your mum a well-deserved lie-in. Let her rest and enjoy the peace and quiet before she has to start her day.

6. Do some of the housework

Take up some of the chores around the house for the day so your mum has a day of rest. Whether it’s emptying the dishwasher, hovering  (best left till after she wakes up!) or doing the washing, your mum will appreciate the effort.

7. Handprint artwork

Get crafty and make some family handprint art together. I love this handprint artwork.

8. Make a mothers day card

Make your mum a personalised mothers day card. If you are stuck for ideas, look at this 29 Mother’s Day Cards That Kids Can Make post for ideas.

9. Write your mum a letter

Write your mum a personalised letter to your mum about how she’s helped you or why you think she is special. You could alternatively create a list of the top 5 things you love about your mum.

10. Cook her a delicious meal

Treat your mum to a delicious home cooked meal. Try cooking a Sunday roast or cooking her favourite meal. I’m currently loving Katsu curry. If cooking is not your forte, you could just treat her to her favourite takeaway instead and spend quality time with her while you wait for it to arrive!

I really hope you found these free and thoughtful Mothers Day gift ideas useful and are able to treat your mum to a special day! If you have any other suggestions for wonderful gift ideas I would love to know.
